What is sprunki?

Hi! So I’m a dandy’s world fan and as I was logging in to play, sprunki appeared on my recommended board on Roblox. I’ve played one game so far, lasting to round 10, I thought to do some research, not knowing that the research was going to open a wormhole of confusion for me.

What is sprunki exactly?
Is it just a game published in many places? Is it an animation series? Is it a multi media situation?
